FAQs About RV and Other Mobile Starlink Installation
Starlink offers two Roam plans tailored for users who need reliable internet while traveling, camping, or working remotely:
Roam 50GB – Priced at $50 per month, this plan includes 50 GB of Roam data. It’s ideal for occasional or low-usage travelers who need internet access for light browsing or basic work tasks while on the road.
Roam Unlimited – At $165 per month, this plan provides unlimited Roam data, making it a great choice for full-time RVers, digital nomads, and those who need consistent connectivity on the go.
Key Features of Starlink Roam Plans:
Countrywide Coverage – Stay connected across the U.S., even in remote areas where traditional internet providers fall short.
In-motion Use – Starlink Roam supports use while in motion up to 100 mph (160 km/h).
International Travel – Roam plans allow internet access beyond U.S. borders in eligible service areas.
Coastal Coverage – Ideal for boaters and coastal travelers who need connectivity near shorelines.
Pause Service Anytime – You can pause and resume your service as needed with no long-term contract.
Starlink Mini Option:
For ultra-portable needs, the Starlink Mini is a compact, backpack-sized kit perfect for travel. It includes a built-in WiFi router, lower power consumption, DC power input, and can deliver download speeds over 100 Mbps.
Need Faster In-Motion Speeds?
The Starlink Flat High-Performance dish is specifically designed for in-motion use. It offers better connectivity in tough environments with download speeds up to 220 Mbps and upload speeds up to 25 Mbps, outperforming the standard dish for high-speed mobile use.
- Determining what Starlink system is best for in-motion use depends on your needs. A Starlink Mini will get you around 100Mbps download, while a Flat High Performance KIT, or the new Performance Gen 3 KIT will get you significantly higher download and upload speeds. Other determining factors are things like; do you need it for your car, truck, sprinter van, earth mover, or RV? The reason that is important is because the modem is built into the Starlink Mini, so a router is not necessary if you will be mounting to a sunroof with a suction cup mount however, if you plan on mounting on top of your roof and placing a barrier of metal between the dish and inside of your vehicle, then installing a router inside the vehicle is essential for better signal. For the Flat High Performance, and new Performance Gen 3, a router is not optional – you need one for them to function.

While it’s possible to install Starlink internet for in-motion needs on your own, professional installation is strongly recommended. Mounting the dish improperly or routing cables incorrectly can lead to weak signals, equipment damage, or connection loss while in motion. At Installers of Starlink, our technicians ensure your system is installed securely and optimized for travel, so you stay connected on every leg of your journey.
Our Starlink RV installation service includes a full site assessment, secure dish mounting (roof, pole, or custom setup), expert cable management, and performance testing. Installers of Starlink technicians make sure your system is free from obstructions, safely connected, and ready for mobile or parked use.
Yes—Starlink Roam is built for RVers and nomads who need dependable internet in remote areas or while traveling. When installed professionally, the system provides strong, stable service, even in hard-to-reach locations. Our team ensures that your dish is mounted and aligned for the best possible signal wherever your travels take you.
- Each installation is unique, but for most residential setups, the process typically takes 3 to 4 hours. In some cases, it can be completed in as little as 1.5 hours, depending on mounting requirements and site conditions. After installation, Starlink may take up to 12 hours to fully optimize, as it downloads updates and maps satellite connections for the best performance. The good news? We’ll be able to confirm that your system is working and provide a clear idea of what your regular speeds should be after optimization.
- Absolutely! Using tools like Google satellite view, we can assess your home or business and recommend the ideal mount or accessories for a seamless installation. If you need help determining what type of mount is best for your situation, contact us. We’d be happy to go over everything with you and have you a complete evaluation, equipment recommendations, and a final quote in less than 10 minutes!
If Starlink is at capacity in your area, you can join their waitlist through the official Starlink website. However, there are still ways to get service sooner:
- Starlink Roam – This plan allows you to order Starlink for use in areas where capacity is available and then bring it to your location. Keep in mind that performance may vary in high-capacity regions.
- Flat High Performance – Since this plan is designed for mobility, it may still be available even in areas where residential service is full.
- Business Plans – Starlink sometimes prioritizes business and enterprise accounts, making these options worth considering.
