Starlink Installation FAQs

  • Starlink says that you can expect a speed between 25-225 Mbps with latency around 20–40 ms, a notable improvement for rural locations. However, what we’re used to seeing as professional installers, considering there are little to no obstructions, you should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 170 Mbps – 300 Mbps. That is based on a nationwide average using over 3,200 installs as examples.
  • There are now 3 residential plans to choose from – The Residential unlimited plan for $120 (up to 400+ Mbps download) per month, the Residential Lite plan  (up to 250+ Mbps download) for $80 per month, and the newly added Residential 100 Mbps plan for $40 per month. In either event, you can pause, reactivate, upgrade, or downgrade whenever you choose.
  • Starlink’s business plans typically deliver speeds of 300-450 Mbps from device to internet and 450-900 Mbps from device to router in optimal conditions. While these speeds are not Starlink’s official estimates, they reflect what we commonly see during installations with no obstructions.

The Flat High Performance hardware is currently $1,000.

  • Monthly plans start at $65 for 50GB, $165 for 500GB, $290 for 1TB, and $540 for 2TB of priority data.

The newest Starlink Performance Kit ($2,000) features an aluminum enclosure and supports AC and DC power, making it ideal for remote areas, harsh weather zones, and in-motion connectivity.

Whether you’re operating a construction site, managing a farm, or running a business in a rural region, Starlink provides enterprise-grade speeds and uptime you can count on. The system is built for 10-year survivability, backed by a 3-year warranty, and ready to handle whatever nature throws your way.

With download speeds up to 400+ Mbps, and network enhancements expected to enable gigabit speeds in 2026 — no hardware upgrade required.

Choose a plan that matches your usage level:

  • Local Priority 50 GB
Ideal for low-bandwidth needs such as point-of-sale systems, light file transfers, or emergency backup connections. For seamless service, enable automatic overage to stay online after reaching your 50 GB cap.

  • Local Priority 500 GB
A great fit for small teams of 2–4 employees with moderate internet activity. Perfect for email, browsing, and cloud-based tools without overpaying for unused data.

  • Local Priority 1 TB
Designed for small to midsize businesses with 5–10 active users. Supports consistent use of video conferencing, large file uploads, and daily cloud operations.

  • Local Priority 2 TB
Best suited for midsize teams or data-heavy environments with 10–20 users. Offers generous bandwidth for streaming, multi-user collaboration, and continuous system monitoring.

If Starlink is at capacity in your area, you can join their waitlist through the official Starlink website. However, there are still ways to get service sooner:

  • Starlink Roam – This plan allows you to order Starlink for use in areas where capacity is available and then bring it to your location. Keep in mind that performance may vary in high-capacity regions.
  • Flat High Performance – Since this plan is designed for mobility, it may still be available even in areas where residential service is full.
  • Business Plans – Starlink sometimes prioritizes business and enterprise accounts, making these options worth considering.

For personalized guidance, call us at (877) 309-1050—we’d be happy to help!

  • All of our Starlink installers have had a criminal background check and carry a minimum of 1 million liability insurance.

  • We guarantee workmanship for one year and offer three months of tech help during business hours. Prefer always-on assistance? Our partners at KVH provide 24/7/365 optional support and account management for $19 per month, per location. Multi-site operators often centralize tickets in the U.S. under that program.

50 GB $65/mo, 500 GB $165/mo, 1 TB $290/mo, 2 TB $540/mo. Starlink notes “best for backup & small businesses,” up through small/midsize with higher tiers (and lists example user ranges). Includes priority network access, public IPv4, dashboard.

  • Personal – Residential / Residential Lite / Residential 100 Mbps (fixed home use)
Residential $120/mo (unlimited data). Residential Lite $80/mo (unlimited deprioritized data; speeds may be slower vs. the Residential $120 plan during peak hours). Residential 100 Mbps $40/mo (unlimited data, up to 100 Mbps download speeds).

  • Personal – Roam (portable)
Roam 50 GB $50/mo or Roam Unlimited $165/mo for travel/temporary use.

When to choose which:

  • Need business features (public IP, SLA-style priority, dashboard) or in-motion on land? Choose Local Priority at the data tier that matches your demand. Starlink’s fixed-site page lists who each tier fits (e.g., backup/small business → 50 GB; small business 2-4 users → 500 GB; 5-10 users → 1 TB; 10-20 users → 2 TB).

  • Fixed home use? Residential. For lower cost with peak-hour slowdowns, Residential Lite (deprioritized), Residential 100 Mbps for small households.

  • Short-term/mobile pop-ups? Roam (portable).

MINI — Who is Mini for, and which plans apply?
  • What it is: Backpack-size kit with built-in Wi-Fi, DC power input, and 100+ Mbps downloads (typical); designed for portable/low-demand use.

Plan options that work with Mini (portable use):

  • Roam 50 GB $50/mo — lighter/occasional use while traveling.

  • Roam Unlimited $165/mo — ongoing travel, camping, working on the go.

When to choose which:
Pick Roam 50 GB for infrequent/low-usage trips; choose Roam Unlimited for frequent travel or heavier portable use. (Roam is described by Starlink as “best for RVers, campers, travelers, and working on the go.”)

FLAT HIGH PERFORMANCE (Performance Gen 2) — When do you need the in-motion/harsh-environment kit?
  • What it is: Rugged, wide ~140° FoV antenna designed for in-motion and tough environments; IP56, avg ~110 W, snow-melt, survivable ~280 kph (174 mph) winds.

Plan options commonly paired:

  • Business – Local Priority (land, fixed & in-motion):
    50 GB $65/mo, 500 GB $165/mo, 1 TB $290/mo, 2 TB $540/mo. Includes priority, public IPv4, dashboard.

  • Business – Global Priority (land + ocean/global):
    50 GB $250/mo, 500 GB $650/mo, 1 TB $1,150/mo, 2 TB $2,150/mo (globally consistent pricing). Includes priority, public IPv4, dashboard.

When to choose which:

  • Land fleets/vehicles or fixed sites needing higher uptime while moving: Local Priority at the data tier Starlink maps to your size (backup/small → 50 GB; small (2-4 users) → 500 GB; 5-10 → 1 TB; 10-20 → 2 TB).

  • Near-shore/maritime or global land travel: Global Priority tiers.

This KIT is also a good fit for households that require or expect much faster upload and download speeds.

Current capability up to 400+ Mbps with hardware designed for gigabit-class service upgrades in 2026—no hardware swap needed (service availability depends on Starlink network upgrades).

Plan options commonly paired:

  • Business – Local Priority (land, fixed & in-motion):
    50 GB $65/mo, 500 GB $165/mo, 1 TB $290/mo, 2 TB $540/mo.

  • Business – Global Priority (land + ocean/global):
    50 GB $250/mo, 500 GB $650/mo, 1 TB $1,150/mo, 2 TB $2,150/mo.

When to choose which:
Pick Local Priority for land-based operations needing reliable fixed & in-motion service and business features; choose Global Priority for maritime/global coverage. Starlink’s fixed-site page lists which Local Priority data tiers fit typical business sizes (backup/small → 50 GB; small 2-4 users → 500 GB; 5-10 → 1 TB; 10-20 → 2 TB).

This KIT is also a good fit for households that require or expect much faster upload and download speeds.
